there are very few people, their contention is long-term connected in population centers in san francisco and los angeles, but it will be a long time before that is accomplished. right now we do have the connectivity we need to, the population, and we also have the only corridor, 430 some mile corridor almost entirely unknown by amtrak, the american people and the taxpayers. that is opposed to the rest of amtrak service, 20,000 miles of service, long-distance, inner-city service, on which amtrak runs on private freight rail that is maintained and paid for on a lease basis to the private sector, and we in fact again bones this corridor and we have also highlighted -- i took the chairmanship in october of 2010, the summary of the title is the federal government must stop sitting on its assets. the first part deals with gsa and we have taken on gsa and some of the idle buildings that sat vacant. was a few minutes ago to continue the effort to get empty buildings fill. if you read through this report it also talks about the northeast corridor which is one of the most valuable assets, transportation,

here out of san francisco where a tree, big tree fell on a car here with the rain. it's not just been the rain but we have seen very windy conditions with some of these storms. and even into san francisco headed into the higher elevation. we see winds gusting over 100 miles per hour. big problems there back to your first alert forecast for the day today. into the northeast. that white where you see the snow. don't worry about that that's very very light. could cause a little bit of a dusting. may be on some brings and overpasses. be a little bit careful as you are driving today. not going to be any big problems. down to the southeast, the nice conditions continue, a ton of sunshine. very comfortable temperatures. we need rain here. unfortunately it doesn't look like we are going to get any significant rainy time soon. but, try to enjoy the nice temperatures. into the northern plains, also i will tell you we are talking about temps well above average all across the eastern two thirds of the country. that's going to be the case here into the northern plains. out across the west today a

stolen. one san francisco security firm estimates that the market this year for stolen cell phones is more than $30 billion. the fcc says that 30% to 40% of robberies in some of the biggest cities involve cell phones. in washington, d.c., they say it's 38%. in san francisco, police say it's nearly 50%. it's difficult to break out the numbers and break it down by brands, but police have confirmed that the best of apple products is a big business. they call it apple pigging. in new york city in september, the nypd reported theft of apple products was up 40% year over year, and they expect that number to rise over the holiday season. how can shoppers figure out if the devices they're buying are legitimate or stolen? apple phones have serial numbers. those can be traced, of course, if a phone was reported lost or stolen. they'll also be blocked from further use. experts actually say if you're buying used online you should ask for the serial number of the product. david? >> thanks very much, jackie. between hurricane sandy in october and the snowstorms out west over the last few days, p

of the things we should do when i grew up in san francisco was we would have a day called using government day, and i would, everybody in the class would get to go down and sort of shadowed a member of the board of supervisors of the mayor or the city attorney are somebody and see what his job was like. and what a good thing that was. i remember that. and one of the reasons, architecture that i was in china, but one of the things i thought was great in architecture is in australia, they have changed now, but they built a parliament. and this parliament, whatever architecture reason, it goes up like this. it's huge, and the building goes down almost to the ground and it's covered with grass, the whole ceiling. so what the children, would come in droves in the buses and they would go to the top and they would go down like that. and i thought what a good idea. the association in their mind will be this democratic government of australia, and it has a place where i can go and roll downhill, so they'll have a positive association and it will make you more interested and they will learn about it. so
